Dental contracts in England
Coronavirus 2021-22 Year-end declaration form – England only
During the coronavirus pandemic NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) have issued letters and guidance documents which have included information on contractual obligations.
As a condition of the continued income protection received by contracts during the year, as referenced in the ‘Managing the 2021 to 2022 year-end reconciliation’ letter, it is a mandatory requirement for you to submit a year-end declaration for each contract that is open for the whole or for part of the contract year from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.
The ‘21-22 Year-End Declaration’ eForm will be open in Compass from 6 May 2022. You’ll be able to find the eForm in the ‘COVID-19’ menu options.
The deadline to submit your year-end declaration is 11.59pm on 31 May 2022.
Your '21-22 Year-End Declaration' eForm letter will be available no later than 16 May 2022 in Compass. To read this letter, log in to Compass and:
- Open the ‘Reporting’ folder
- Select ‘view published reports’
- Under ‘report type’ enter YEDLTR and click ‘search’
- Change the year to 2022 and click 'search'
The 2020 to 2021 'Year-end declaration' Compass form will no longer be available for completion from 6 May 2022. Any contract needing to complete the year-end declaration for 2020-21 please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coronavirus 2022 to 2023 workforce data collection form - England only
The workforce returns continue to be a requirement of income protection. For 2022 to 2023 the categories will be reduced to reflect we are no longer in a period of emergency response, the withdrawal of the dental standard operating procedure (SOP) and the closure of government support schemes.
The Excel whole time equivalent (WTE) tool has been updated to reflect the above changes and can be used to record WTE for up to 30 members of staff. If a contract has staff numbers exceeding 30, save additional files and add totals together, as required.
Coronavirus 2021-22 workforce data collection form - England only
The NHS’s response to coronavirus is not yet over and practices should continue to follow government, public health, and NHS England and NHS Improvement guidance.
The monthly retrospective workforce return, which we have been asked to implement and collect on behalf of NHS England and NHS Improvement, provides information to NHS England and NHS Improvement regional teams and local commissioners about the status of the dental practice workforce during the pandemic.
The expectation is that this form is completed while NHS dental providers continue to receive ongoing monthly contractual payments and move to full recovery and restoration of dental services.

Coronavirus triage form - England only
The COVID-19 triage form is now available in the Compass 'Activity' folder.
To select the form:
- Log in to Compass
- Select 'Activity' folder
- Select 'Activity creation'
- Select 'Triage' from the 'Form Type' dropdown menu
Guidance on how to create and submit the Online Triage form is available on our Dental activity processing page under 'Compass online form guidance'.
From 1 December 2020 COVID-19 triage forms can be transmitted directly from your practice management system (PMS).
If the PMS supplier software you currently use for transmitting your dental submissions has not yet provided their triage update, you should continue to use the Compass triage online form. This can be found in the 'Activity' folder and 'Activity creation' menu.
For contracts not using PMS software, you should continue to use the Compass triage online form for triage submissions.
