In 2013, we were directed by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to act as the centre of expertise, delivering end-to-end HR shared services to NHS England and several other non-departmental public bodies.
In the early days, we focused on building capacity to deliver our services, implementing a service improvement programme to improve costing and pricing, customer contact, and processes.
In 2016, we decided to widen our offer to other NHS organisations. With our focus on deepening our understanding of customer needs, we introduced our Business Improvement Team and set a baseline for improvement. We also implemented TRAC to manage recruitment and EMS to manage customer email contact.
In the following years, we concentrated on standardising the service and meeting KPIs and SLAs. This focus on quality improvement has enabled us to drive down the average advert to offer from 43 working days to 31 days.
We have a policy of continuous improvement and are always evaluating and developing our people, our office, and the tools we use to do the job. Our focus is always to recommend ways to improve the service to make it scalable for growth to offer the best possible value to our customers without loss of performance.
In 2018, the we took on the management and development of ESR and NHS Jobs. This is allowing our NHSBSA Workforce Directorate to explore new opportunities for streamlining the hire-to-retire journey for NHS employees.
As the HR Shared Services team, we are playing an important part in the intelligent optimisation of all NHSBSA Workforce Services, offering our customers a more joined-up experience and consolidating growth of the service to benefit the NHS and Social Care.

Recent service developments have enabled us to offer some new off-the-shelf services to NHS Trusts and other organisations who need additional resource and expertise for time-consuming tasks such as pre-employment checking, job evaluation and GDPR compliance. These services are designed to enable HR managers to free up their time to concentrate on their priorities in the knowledge that HR processes are in the safe hands of our expert team.
