Client: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)
Background
CNTW provides secondary mental health care from more than 70 sites across Cumbria, Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. They provide support to people in their own homes, as well as from community and hospital-based premises.
CNTW’s records team are working on a paper health record digitisation project. The project covers paper format health records that were stored in 2 patient record libraries within the trust.
Aim
The aim of the project was to scan the paper records in the 2 record libraries to allow them to be available electronically. This means that clinical services can access the right record at the right time to enable safe qualitative care and treatment of service users.
The solution
We digitised the paper records so they could be made available through CNTW’s electronic record system. This gave CNTW’s clinical workforce access to historic information to inform robust clinical decision making.
In addition to improving patient safety and care, digitisation also improved the efficiency of the service and supports CNTW’s environmental objectives.
The result
CNTW gave us some really positive feedback about their experience of working with NHSBSA Scanning Services.
