Unfortunately some pharmacists have let us know that they’ve recently been contacted by someone claiming to be from 'the NHSBSA', ‘the PPA’ or ‘Prescription Services’. The caller says that the pharmacist needs to provide their bank details so they can process a refund or because there is a problem with a banking mandate. In one case the pharmacist did provide their bank details and a deduction was made from their account.
The NHS Business Services Authority will never contact pharmacists directly and ask for bank details in this way.
If you receive a call which you believe to be suspicious, please hang up without giving your details. Any calls like this should be reported to the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, Action Fraud.
