2022/23 Dental contract negotiations

The ‘first stage of dental reform’ letter, published by NHS England on 19 July 2022, sets out the package of initial reforms to the NHS dental contract which sought to address the challenges associated with delivering care to higher needs patients and making it easier for patients to access NHS care.

Changes introduced from 1 October 2022

On 1 October 2022, NHS Dental Services, in collaboration with your dental practice management system supplier, introduced some changes to the FP17. New fields have been introduced so you can record: 

  • a GDC number for a dental care professional (DCP) involved in the course of treatment 

  • information about each patient’s oral health risk 

  • the patient’s maximum recall period based on their oral health risk and in accordance with NICE guidelines 

From Friday 25 November 2022 the NHS England changes to award additional UDAs for some Band 2 claims went live.
