If you're affected by the changes to public service pension schemes, sometimes known as ‘McCloud’ or the Public Service Pension Remedy, you will be asked if you would like to receive legacy scheme or reform scheme pension benefits for your membership between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2022. This is called the remedy period.
You can find out more information about the changes and if you're affected on our changes to public service pension schemes web hub.
Depending when you retire, you’ll be asked to make this decision either when you claim your NHS pension benefits, or at a later time.
From 1 October 2023, any pensionable service affected members have between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2022, will be placed in their legacy scheme – in the NHS, this is the 1995/2008 Scheme. This is called rollback.
We've shared more information on our website on what this means if you're eligible for the Public Service Pension Remedy and you're affected by annual allowance, including:
- initial information on the new digital service HMRC will be introducing for affected members who have new, increased, or decreased annual allowance charges as a result of rollback
- when these members will receive updated statements, known as remediable service pension savings statements.
You can read more on our understanding the effect of rollback on annual allowance webpage.
