Infected Blood Inquiry and Interim Payments

The final Infected Blood Inquiry report was published on 20 May 2024. The report is available on the Inquiry’s website.

The Government made a further announcement on 21 May 2024, that a second interim payment of £210,000 will be made to registered infected beneficiaries who receive regular support payments.

The England Infected Blood Support Scheme (EIBSS) has now made the interim compensation scheme payments to living infected EIBSS beneficiaries.

The Government announced a payment of £100,000 will be made to eligible estates of the deceased infected beneficiaries. Further information can be found on the gov.uk website.

The Government also announced, that a new independent Arm’s Length Body, the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA), will deliver the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme. This will be a UK-wide scheme open to both infected and affected persons.

There will be no immediate effect on payments made through EIBSS, payments will continue to be paid, at the same level, and on an ex-gratia basis until 31 March 2025. This means that any payments received before and up to 31 March 2025 will not be deducted from compensation awarded through the new Scheme.

People who currently receive payments through EIBSS will automatically be eligible and registered for the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme. Further information can be found on the gov.uk website.
