'Antibiotic quality premium'
The NHS England antibiotic quality premium monitoring dashboard has been produced to help NHS England monitor Sub Integrated Care Board Locations' (SICBLs) (previously CCGs) performance in the delivery of the 'antibiotic quality premium'.
This dashboard is published monthly and reports on performance with the primary care antibiotic prescribing indicators that are defined in the quality premium guidance.
Quality premium 2017-19: reducing gram negative bloodstream infections (GNBSIs) and inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in at risk groups:
Recalculation of 10% reduction targets
SICBL baseline data and subsequently the 10% reduction targets for the number of trimethoprim items for people aged 70 and above have been recalculated in March 2017 and republished within the 'annex part b' reduction of inappropriate antibiotic prescribing for urinary tract infections (UTI) in primary care.
This has happened due to rapid system improvements in the identification of patient age for prescription items.
Subsequently, patient identifiers are now available for 90% of all dispensed prescriptions, compared to 74% when the 10% reduction targets were published.
Use of this more accurate data provides SICBLs greater certainty of both reduction targets and performance against those targets.
The process by which the baseline data has been adjusted, and the 10% reduction targets calculated, is published in the updated 'annex part b'.
Practice level data
Publication of practice level data for the number of trimethoprim items for people aged 70 and above (Excel: 1.2MB) has been calculated for 12 months to December 2016 and is available.
Antimicrobial stewardship dashboard
In collaboration with NHS Improvement, the 'antimicrobial stewardship' dashboard has been developed to support the national antimicrobial resistance strategy.
The government is committed to lead the international fight against AMR setting out new ambitions to do this.
Following the O’Neill Review of AMR, the government set the following ambitions:
- 50% reduction of preventable GNBSIs by 2020/21
- 50% reduction of the number of inappropriate antimicrobial prescriptions by 2020
The 'antimicrobial stewardship' dashboard supports the delivery of both of these ambitions, providing prescribing data to support local stewardship activity and reporting, and linking to relevant AMR resources such as the PHE AMR Portal and NICE guidelines.
If you're registered, you can access the ‘restricted items’ dashboard using ePACT2.
