Prescription form overprint specifications

It’s important that the overprint specifications for prescriptions are followed so all forms are printed to a high standard. This makes it much easier for us to process the forms quickly to meet deadlines.

FP10SS overprint specifications October 2020 (PDF: 1591KB)The purpose of this document is to identify overprinting requirements for the prescriber type:

GP

To allow prescriptions to be printed on FP10SS prescription forms for acute supply (acute and repeat prescribing) and repeat dispensing.

The prescriber type GP includes both General Practitioners and other prescribers registered with the General Medical Council.

GPs may work in practices and cost centres 'parented' either by a commissioner such as a clinical commissioning group or 'parented' by a provider organisation such as a NHS Foundation Trust or an independent sector healthcare provider.

Nurse and additional prescriber

To allow prescriptions to be printed on FP10SS prescription forms for acute supply (acute and repeat prescribing) and repeat dispensing. The prescriber type nurse includes both Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribers and Nurse Independent/Supplementary Prescribers.

The prescriber type additional prescriber includes all Independent/Supplementary Prescribers who are not medical prescribers, nurses or dentists.

Non-medical prescribers may work in practices and cost centres 'parented' either by a commissioner such as a clinical commissioning group or 'parented' by a provider organisation such as a NHS Foundation Trust or an independent sector healthcare provider.

It also identifies overprinting requirements to allow prescriptions to be printed on FP10SS prescription forms for prescribers in hospital units (Hospital Trust Sites) who do not use NHS Prescription Services’ information systems to identify individual prescriber codes.

The layout of the forms varies and is dependent on the prescriber type and prescribing organisation.
