We publish BNF / SNOMED mapping data.
One Drug Database (ODD) has been implemented. As the data has now moved to the new format, we have updated the BNF SNOMED mapping file to reflect this. The 'MDR: Product Description' has been replaced with the new naming convention, 'BNF Description'.
The dataset shows one row for every VMP / AMP / VMPP / AMPP record and a field showing which BNF code this maps to.
The data published in September 2024 contains information relating to July 2024.
How often we'll publish data
Data is published monthly and will relate to the latest available month in ePACT2 at the time of publication. For example, data published by the end of September 2024 contains records of a full mapping based on what was populated on our drug database as of July 2024, regardless of whether there has been any prescribing or not.
SNOMED - BNF mapping document September 2024 (ZIP file: 16.4MB)
This ZIP file includes an Excel spreadsheet of mapping data for August 2024.
BNF / SNOMED guidance document (Word: 246KB)Please note- A corruption in the BNF Code has been identified within December 2023's SNOMED data. This has now been corrected and the file has been re-ran and replaced. This can be accessed under the Previous Excel versions of SNOMED drop down at the bottom of this page. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Please note: It has been identified that the BNF Name populated in the January 2023 and February 2023 mapping file has been restricted to a maximum of 20 characters instead of the normal maximum 60-character drug limit and 100-character appliance limit.
We have re-run these two files and replaced the current published files for these two months.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
There will be one other noticeable difference in these two files and in future months going forward where a significant number of VMP appliance products will no longer be populated with a BNF Code. These appliances are only listed as AMP products in Part IX of the Drug Tariff, therefore the BNF Code has been removed accordingly.
